Being Charitable

There are about 2 million survivors of sexual assault living in California, and about half of them are underage. Not only is rape culture a huge part of our society but it is something we are living with and it needs to be stopped. Rape cultures definition is a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. There are plenty of charities and campaigns towards victims of sexual assault and those affected by it, but I think the one that stands out to me is Student Coalition Against Rape, or SCAR. SCAR is a huge part in and on school campuses all around the United States.

SCAR to me means that many of the filed reports of rape will go noticed, and that people will finally be stopped. That victims will finally be treated seriously. Not only is sexual assault hard for victims to
take but it becomes a lot more overwhelming when people begin to joke about or take the subject lightly. I have had multiple friends tell me their sexual assault stories and I am so unbelievably lucky to have never been assaulted.

As a friend of multiple people that have been sexually assaulted I am starting to take a stand along with SCAR and make sure nobody has to go through the pain and suffering many victims have to go through. I would love for high schools and colleges all around the world to start speaking out and informing students about rape culture and how to properly deal with sexual assault.
